Has Mother’s Day caught you by surprise like it has for me? Like wasn’t it Easter last week and now we have another event to prepare for?
If you, like me, feel a bit ill prepared, I’ve come up with this easy craft activity the kids will love to help with.

Not all mums love to bake, BUT often there will be a canister somewhere on the kitchen bench where this wooden spoon can be on display.
If she is a baker, EVEN better because you can team this DIY painted wooden spoon with a cookbook and some kitchen linens.

To do this craft, I used whatever paint I had in the craft box. You really need an acrylic paint for the handles, but most paint will soak into the handle really well. It’s best to advise the recipient this wooden spoon should be hand washed only.
Materials
- Kmart Wooden Spoons (however many you need to give to mums, grandma’s and mother figures in your life)
- Paint
- Paintbrushes

Parents will need to supervise this activity and help with the masking tape. My four year decided to paint the back of one spoon and beyond the masking tape on another. But anything can happen when you craft with kids. It just adds to the handmade touch for these wooden spoons.
Get them to decide what colours. I’m not sure how long the glitter handle will last, but it sure will make mum smile when she receives it as a gift.
